Two workers that were seriously injured by reversing forklift trucks in separate incidents at a vegetable processing factory will receive over £46,000 in compensation.
Both accidents happened in Chicksands (Bedfordshire), at a factory that processes vegetables as part of the operations for an East Yorkshire produce company.
The first accident occurred at MyFresh Prepared Produce premises on 15th January 2014, when Chris Bottesch, 43, a warehouse team leader, was talking to another forklift driver in the goods yard.
After being trapped between two forklifts, Mr Bottesch suffered multiple fractures to his right leg, hip and foot, and the injuries meant that he was required to have a surgical procedure to repair the damage.
Mr Bottesch, who also suffered nerve damage that resulted in drop foot, was off work for a year, before returning to an administrative role that was not physically demanding.
The second incident occurred when a 44 year-old quality control technician was hit by a reversing forklift truck while inspecting raw material, and he sustained a fracture to his lower left leg as a result.
The court heard that both incidents could have been prevented if the goods yard and vehicle movement on the site had been better managed.
MyFresh Prepared Produce Ltd, of Livingstone Road, Hessle (East Yorkshire), was fined a total of £38,000 and ordered to pay £8,320 in costs as well as a victim surcharge of £120 after pleading guilty to breaching sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
