Time to bring a construction lawyer on board?

Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveal that construction output increased by 1.5 per cent in May – reaching a record high.

New commercial work was the reason for May’s record after its sector rose by 2.8 per cent. In this industry, private commercial work and private housing were the most significant area that supported this growth, increasing by 12.1 per cent and 7.2 per cent, respectively.

While more projects on the rise is a good thing, it is necessary to keep organised within your construction firm and ensure any outstanding payments are with suppliers and subcontractors on time. Plus, you are following any contracts and agreements.

How can a construction lawyer help me?

A construction lawyer can help you with planning permissions, construction and engineering contracts, housing, and infrastructure.

Before a construction project begins, a lawyer can help with non-contentious work, such as arranging procurement and any contracts.

For those who do not know, procurement refers to obtaining goods and services for business use.

During the non-contentious work stage, construction lawyers typically work with whoever is financing the project – the construction company or an architect.

If during the project, something does not go according to the agreements drawn up at the procurement stage, the dispute will be dealt with as discussed in the contract.

Disputes can go through adjudication or arbitration to reduce costs and settle disagreements. Alternatively, contentious work can include appointing a construction lawyer if the case goes to court.

If your project does not go to plan, we can act on your behalf or act in your defence.

As Legal 500 put it, “Palmers Solicitors’ ‘excellent’ team is praised for its ability to deal with all types of construction disputes, from adjudications to litigation and arbitration, and ‘provides efficient advice at all stages of the dispute resolution process’.”
