Charities and action groups today joined forces to mark World Alzheimer’s Day, an annual event which aims to raise awareness of the ongoing battle against dementia.
The day, which takes place every 21 September, is the centrepiece of the wider World Alzheimer’s Month.
Organisations and individuals from nations around the world seize the opportunity to highlight the challenges facing almost 50 million people presently living with dementia.
To mark this year’s event, the Alzheimer’s Society has launched a brand-new animation – Memories with Grandma.
The four and a half minute film was specifically made to raise awareness of dementia among seven to 11-year-olds. The charity hopes that schools and youth groups will use the clip to accompany a lesson plan designed to build a better understanding among young people.
An Alzheimer’s Society spokesman said: “There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK. Many still face the condition alone and without adequate support.
“Together we can change this. Help us reach everyone affected by dementia whoever and wherever they are, so they feel included and supported to live a life they choose. Unite against dementia today and donate.”
