A new study has revealed which regions of the UK are most likely to see neighbour disputes arise over party walls, fences, shared driveways, unruly behaviour and more.
The research, which was carried out by price comparison website GoCompare, found that the West Midlands was the ‘nastiest’ and ‘nosiest’ region in the UK, with a high chance of neighbours falling out with one another.
By comparison, it found that North West England was the area where Britons are most likely to develop friendships and find themselves ‘on first name terms’ with their neighbours.
London ranked second in terms of ‘nasty’ neighbour behaviour, followed closely by Scotland, while South East England and Northern Ireland ranked second and third, respectively, on the ‘noisiness’ scale.
Despite this, Northern Ireland actually ranked first on GoCompare’s overall ‘neighbourliness’ scale, followed closely by London, the West Midlands, the East of England and Yorkshire.
The 2,000 people quizzed as part of the survey were also asked which British celebrity they could envision as their ideal neighbour. The vast majority voted for Sir David Attenborough, with Ed Sheeran and Mary Berry ranking a close second and third.
When asked which star they would least like to live next door to, Katie Hopkins was voted number one, followed closely by Russell Brand and Nigel Farage.
A separate study carried out last year found that around two thirds of Britons have, at some point or another, lived next door to a ‘nuisance neighbour’.
It found that 60 per cent of respondents had found themselves arguing with a neighbour at least once, while more than a third had considered moving house due to an ongoing neighbour dispute.
